2/18/2024 0 Comments Service dog hand signals![]() Say, for example, he is jumping on every new guest that comes into the house. ![]() “Stop!” “No!” and “Don’t Do That!” all mean the same thing to a person, but that’s not entirely true as far as your dog understands. When we have a dog’s full attention, they are engaging in our voice’s pitch, our body language, and even our own excitement and energy level when communicating with them. What’s important to note about this is that a dog’s limited vocabulary and comprehension in comparison to our own actually necessitates an owner’s need to be specific about their commands as well as intentional. The Border Collies, Poodles, and German Shepherds in the top of that pack are on par with a child at two and a half years. And the absolute smartest dogs, by this scale, have the capacity to learn as many as 250 words. However, those 165 words actually include hand gestures as well, a vocabulary that’s equivalent to that of a developing two-year-old infant. One 2009 study determined that the average dog has the ability to learn about 165 different words - a limited vocabulary compared to humans, of course, but also far beyond the typical “stop” and “no” commands we instinctively order. It’s also important to note that dogs are believed to have a limited capacity for learning words. ![]() The current study investigated the physiological and behavioral response of kennelled dogs with five different genres of music including Soft Rock, Motown, Pop, Reggae and Classical, to determine whether increasing the variety of auditory stimulation reduces the level of habituation to auditory enrichment.” “However, rapid habituation of dogs to this form of auditory enrichment has also been demonstrated. “Classical music has been shown to reduce stress in kennelled dogs,” they wrote in the Journal of Physiology and Behavior. “That being said, reggae music and soft rock showed the highest positive changes in behavior.” “Overall, the response to different genres was mixed highlighting the possibility that like humans, our canine friends have their own individual music preferences,” study co-author study Neil Evans said. They turned on six different playlists, each featuring its own genre of music, monitoring heart rate, cortisol levels, and behaviors that measure stress levels, like barking or lying down. In fact, in 2017, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) reported that just like humans, music actually has a proven soothing effect on anxiety and stress. For example, dogs do respond to sound when experiencing anxiety. Meanwhile, some dog owners can simply raise their hand in the air and their dog stops right in its tracks.Īs far as research goes, there are many angles to approach the topic and things to learn about what we do know about dogs and communication before even comparing verbal and hand commands. No, Down, Stop, and plenty more are what we instinctively bark at our dogs when they misbehave. ![]() But still, which one is best? Which is most effective for dogs when you do have their attention, their gaze, and no surrounding noise distractions? This is probably something owners of dogs with potential anxiety disorders, hyperactivity, or just dogs that often misbehave, are probably most curious about. In this case, the approach of learning both helps dog owners “cover their bases,” ensuring they have some form of reliable communication with their dog regardless of the circumstances. Alternatively, if your dog is looking away and not making direct eye contact with you, it seems reasonable to use a voice command.” “If you are in a noisy setting then perhaps it is better to use hand signals since your voice command may get lost in the ambient sound. “Most dog handlers will tell you that which set of instructions you should select depends upon the situation, says Stanley Coren PhD., DSc, FRSC. Most basic and beginning training includes a combination of both hand gestures and voice commands for dogs. While not knowing what to do and where to even start for many of us when it comes to teaching a dog to obey common commands, answering this question wouldn’t be a bad place to set out. Do dogs respond better to hand signals and gestures or verbal commands? It’s actually a pretty good question to research for the new dog owner who’s serious about raising a well-behaved pup. ![]()

2/18/2024 0 Comments Shotty supraclavicular lymph nodes![]() ![]() Posterior cervical lymphadenopathy may occur with EBV infection, tuberculosis, lymphoma, or head and neck malignancy (either lymphomas or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma). The anterior cervical lymph nodes are often enlarged because of one of a variety of infections of the head and neck or due to some systemic infections such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus infection, or toxoplasmosis. The location of lymphadenopathy can often be used to help identify specific etiologies ( table 3).Ĭervical - The anterior cervical lymph nodes are either superficial or deep to the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the posterior cervical nodes are posterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle and anterior to the trapezius muscle ( figure 2). ĮTIOLOGIES - Lymphadenopathy can be caused by a vast array of diseases ( table 1) and drugs ( table 2). Normal lymph nodes are usually less than 1 cm in diameter and tend to be larger in adolescence than later in life.Ī clinically useful approach is to classify lymphadenopathy as localized when it involves only one region, such as the neck or axilla, and generalized when it involves more than one region. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a video presented by Alissa Grant-Walker on how to calculate the coefficient of determination. Interpreting results Using the formula Y mX + b: The linear regression interpretation of the slope coefficient, m, is, 'The estimated change in Y for a 1-unit increase of X.' The interpretation of the intercept parameter, b, is, 'The estimated value of Y when X equals 0.' The first portion of results contains the best fit values of the slope and Y-intercept terms. In simple linear regression, the starting point is the estimated regression equation: b 0 + b 1 x. As such, both the input values (x) and the output value are numeric. The representation is a linear equation that combines a specific set of input values (x) the solution to which is the predicted output for that set of input values (y). For more information, please see [ Video Examples Example 1 Linear regression is an attractive model because the representation is so simple. To account for this, an adjusted version of the coefficient of determination is sometimes used. Thus, in the example above, if we added another variable measuring mean height of lecturers, $R^2$ would be no lower and may well, by chance, be greater - even though this is unlikely to be an improvement in the model. The simplest form of the regression equation with one dependent and one independent variable is defined by the. The overall idea of regression is to examine two things: (1) does a set of predictor variables do a good job in predicting an outcome (dependent) variable. This means that the number of lectures per day account for $89.5$% of the variation in the hours people spend at university per day.Īn odd property of $R^2$ is that it is increasing with the number of variables. Linear regression is a basic and commonly used type of predictive analysis. There are a number of variants (see comment below) the one presented here is widely used It is therefore important when a statistical model is used either to predict future outcomes or in the testing of hypotheses. This may involve a series of toggling the switch on and off…and then on again. Some motion lights may have mechanisms to turn the light on/off manually as well. Regardless of the type of sensor employed, the function is the same, to turn on the motion sensor light when it is triggered. The most commonly used motion detectors are Passive Infrared (PIR), but there are a number of different types, including: Regardless of the physical placement of the sensor, a motion detector actually sense the heat signature and mass as it moves across the coverage zone.Ĭonsequently, it only “sees” living objects that radiate heat, of a minimal size, moving within a particular area. The motion sensor can be built into the light bulb, attached to the fixture, or even mounted separately from the fixture. Motion Activated Lights detect movement within the coverage range of whatever type of motion sensor that is being used. ET: Adds up-to-date information on new options from Philips Hue, Ring and others. As the name implies, a motion sensor light is one that is activated by a motion detector.Įssentially, when a human, or other large body, enters the area within the coverage area of the motion detector, the motion detector is triggered and activates the lighting switch to turn on the light. Expect full reviews and buying advice for all of it in the months ahead. ![]() We'll be sure to test those lights out at the CNET Smart Home once they're available, along with any other new outdoor-friendly smart home They'll be the least expensive Ring products to date, with step lights starting at $18 each and path lights starting at $30 each. A base kit with one light and the power supply costs $130, with additional lights selling for $90, so they definitely don't come cheap, but they're an option worth considering, especially if you've already bought into Hue's well-established smart lighting ecosystem.Īnd again, if you're more interested in outdoor security lighting than in color control, then consider waiting until April, when Ring's new outdoor lighting lineup launches. Still, they make for a pretty easy outdoor aesthetics upgrade.Īnother color-changing option: Philips Hue's Calla path lights, which look like little lighthouses for your yard. The lights communicate using Zigbee, so allow me to remind you that you'll need a hub from Wink or SmartThings or an Amazon Echo Plus to control them. However, if you feel inclined to upgrade, you should know that you've got a growing number of smart alternatives.įor smart, multicolor lights that look good lighting up a path or a garden, check out Sylvania's Gardenspot starter kit, which sells for $70 or less on Amazon. Smarts aside, there are plenty of good-looking decorative options out there, including solar-powered lights that don't require you to break out the extension cords. Specifically, I'm talking about path lighting. New motion-activated path lighting options from Ring are on the way, too, and should cost a lot less. On the high end, Philips Hue's lineup of outdoor lights include these color-changing Calla path lights. That alone is enough of an advantage to nudge some users into the smart switch camp. That's not a problem with smart switches - even when they're switched off, they're still hard-wired, so your automations and remote controls will always work regardless of whether the light is physically on or off. One other thing to keep in mind if you're trying to decide between smart bulbs and smart switches is that smart bulbs only work if the power is on, which means you'll need to retrain yourself and your family members to leave the switch in the on position at all times. Make the swap, and you can automate your back porch light and add Alexa controls into the back room while you're at it. ![]() Spend a little more and you'll find options like the Ecobee Switch Plus, which features built-in sensors for motion, temperature and ambient light plus built-in Alexa voice controls. Both work with a good variety of third-party platforms, includingĪlexa and Google Assistant for voice controls. ![]() Of those, I like the Belkin WeMo Light Switch and the Kasa Wi-Fi Light Switch from TP-Link. Most basic models that just offer simple automations and remote on/off functionality can be had for less than $50 each. ![]() ![]() If your gray is actually gray, then the rest will be close. That is, adjust the color balance so that sampling the color of the gray card gives the same value on all three color channels (like 60,60,60 or 196,196,196). Then color balance by the numbers, not by what you see. The easy way out for you, I think, is to include at least one neutral gray card in the scene. You can read about this in detail Charles Cramer's article in the lastest View Camera covers this explicitly. That is, if your light measures 14,000K, your tranny is going to have a blue cast. If you shoot outdoors where you can't control the color of the light, all bets are off. Scan that on an ICC profiled scanner, and the image file in Photoshop will be very close to correct. If you do that, then you actually can have something close to WYSIWYG. The only way to guarantee correct color from a tranny film is to shoot it in the studio where you can match the lighting exactly to the requirements of the film. Now, just because you are shooting tranny film doesn't mean the color will be right. It would be better to say that you are red-green deficient, and explain it as having a restricted color gamut. The RSI is one of the most popular indicators in the market. If this is not the case, you can always catch up with our tool-specific guides. Now we will go together to look at the most popular ones, with which you will doubtless be familiar. There are many momentum oscillators in the market. Closing price compared to MAįinally, there are those that seek to compare the closing price with to the moving average. They include the commodity channel index (CCI) and the Stochastic Momentum Index (SMI). They look to explain whether the market is strong or weaker compared to historical performance.
